When you say Sneek, you quickly think of Sneekweek. This gigantic water sports event – with 1,000 participating ships and over 100,000 visitors annually – put the city on the map worldwide. But Sneek has more to offer. Much more. The beautiful historic center is crisscrossed with many canals and the bustling downtown has a wide range of stores and restaurants. To offer the many visitors even more, the desire was to create even more atmosphere at night.
And what better way to do that than to connect the city to the water. That’s where we came in!
The question:
The Vereniging Ondernemend Sneek (VOS) wished to involve the town canals more with the town center by using moving water and colorful lighting. It was an assignment tailor-made for us.
The requirements were clear: eight floating, compactly built fountains with sustainable lighting, which could be adjusted as desired and which also took into account the budget. So let’s get to work!
The solution:
Using fountains in a canal involves more than you might think. The water is often not always clean. For this project we used V-Flow aeration fountains. They are not sensitive to dirt, give a voluminous fountain image and provide additional aeration of the canal water.
By using LED RGBW lighting, we provide a sustainable & sparkling solution to put the fountains in the most beautiful light. To emphasize the nostalgic atmosphere of the downtown area, some fountains are equipped with the classic fountain image “Fleur de Lisâ”, along with several other fountains with ever-changing colors.

The result?
A beautiful and breathtaking upgrading of the city center and canals, bringing Sneek and its signature water back together.
