Hoensbroek is a district of the Municipality of Heerlen and possesses beautiful city parks, including the Droomvijver and the Meezenbroekvijver.
The control of its water quality falls within the duties of the Municipality. Unfortunately, every year they had to deal with algae infestations and an increasing lack of oxygen as a result.
The causes can be traced to the shallow water with stagnant water flow, which soon causes the water temperature to rise. Then the problems come naturally; fish kills, smelly water and an unattractive water feature.
Municipal workers had to work again and again to get water moving with tractor-driven emergency pumps, a labor-intensive job with annual costs that produced only temporary results.

Heerlen submitted their water problems to AUGA; since we have already successfully solved such situations with several municipalities, this speaks for itself.
The changing climate, with prolonged heat periods without rain or, conversely, heavy downpours, are major contributors to declining water quality, but insufficient maintenance of city ponds, canals or recreational lakes also contribute.
…to splendid ponds
AUGA builds propeller pumps in floating and stationary versions. These are aerators and simultaneous mixers that move and aerate large bodies of water with little power. Crucial for improving water quality, better biodegradation of organic substances in the water as well as improving oxygenation.
With permanently set up devices that start operating early in the year, you keep water quality in balance. It is not even necessary to keep the devices in continuous operation. Thus, a sustainable solution.
The solution is not complicated
AUGA worked with Heerlen to create a plan of action and provided appropriate installations for this purpose, tailored to the 2 city ponds.
A large fountain has also been placed in the Dream Pond, which together with Hoensbroek Castle provide a harmonious appearance. In the evening hours, the fountain is attractively lit by LED underwater lighting from AUGA.
The propeller pumps are operated periodically, keeping the water of the city ponds in excellent condition, the problems previously encountered no longer occur and maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum.
