Recreational parks often feature ponds and water features. They add beautiful variety to the landscape and create a sense of peace and relaxation. That’s exactly what you’d expect from a park: a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while and truly unwind.
At Heide Resort Brüggen in Germany, however, water doesn’t just play a supporting role—here, it’s the absolute centerpiece. The design incorporates five impressive water features, around which the chalets are generously situated. Regal locations offering plenty of privacy, surrounded by nature, with the water literally right at your doorstep.
As dragonflies and swallows glide gracefully over the water and nature sets its own pace, the clear water invites you to slow down. To enjoy the silence, the view, and the moment. Here, there’s really nothing else you need to do.
Construction of this unique water landscape began in the spring of 2025 with the creation of the first two large water features. In the summer of 2026, the third and fourth water features were completed. Construction of the fifth water feature will follow, bringing the total water landscape at Heide Resort Brüggen to its full extent.
A natural water feature that offers maximum enjoyment with minimal technology
A high-quality water feature starts with a well-thought-out design. The correct water depth is essential to prevent the water from warming up as much as possible. Warmer surface water, in particular, creates ideal conditions for algae growth and can disrupt the natural balance.
That is why we have chosen a rich and varied selection of aquatic plants. These plants not only enhance the natural appearance of the ponds, but also serve an important ecological function. They act as natural water purifiers and play a key role in maintaining healthy and clear water quality.
In addition, a carefully designed flow pattern creates movement in the water. This balanced circulation prevents surface water from becoming stagnant and warming up, and guides debris toward the skimmer filter systems, where it is efficiently collected.
The result is a beautiful, clear, and vibrant aquatic landscape in which nature and technology complement each other—offering guests maximum tranquility and keeping visible technology to a minimum.

The Current Status After One Year
As described earlier, the first two water features have now been in use for a year. During this time, nature has had the opportunity to find its own balance and develop the ecological equilibrium that is so crucial to a healthy water feature.
The result clearly shows what Heide Resort Brüggen has focused on: crystal-clear water all the way to the bottom, a rich variety of beautiful aquatic plants, and a natural environment where flora and fauna can thrive.
The initial results have exceeded expectations. The waterfront area has evolved into an attractive and vibrant environment where tranquility, nature, and recreation come together. It has an appeal and quality that any recreational park would be proud of.
What did it take?
A natural and clear water system doesn’t just happen on its own. Behind the impressive water features at Heideresort Brüggen lies a carefully thought-out design, state-of-the-art technology, and the combined expertise of specialized partners.
Approximately 2,000 m² of high-quality EPDM membrane from Carlisle Ecolan was used for each pond, creating a durable and reliable foundation for the water features.
To ensure optimal water quality and controlled circulation, six AUGA skimmer filter systems have been installed, each equipped with an integrated circulation pump with a capacity of 20 m³. In addition, an AUGA floating mixer ensures sufficient water movement, preventing stagnation and unwanted heating.
The wide variety of aquatic plants supplied by Moerings Waterplantenkwekerij plays an important role. These plants contribute to the natural look of the ponds and are an essential part of their ecological balance.
The success of this project is partly due to the many years of expertise of the three collaborating companies: Carlisle Ecolan, AUGA, and Moerings Waterplantenkwekerij. Each company contributes its own specialized knowledge, experience, and high-quality products. It is precisely this combination of craftsmanship and collaboration that makes it possible to carry out large-scale water projects in which technology and nature are in perfect balance.

Thanks to the organizers and implementers
Without a dream, there can be no plan. Without a strong design, there can be no exceptional landscape. And without skilled contractors, there can be no high-quality execution. Above all, without a project initiator who dares to invest in a vision, a project like this will never come to life.
The impressive water features at Heide Resort Brüggen are the result of a shared vision, creativity, and craftsmanship. We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all those involved, each of whom contributed their own expertise to the realization of this unique project:
